This week, we’re profiling one of our fabulous interns, Ms. Laura Turner-Essel. Laura has been with us for the past year while completing her doctorate, and will sadly be leaving CAPS later this month after a wonderful year providing counseling services and outreach to the UCSC community. She will be missed!
Laura Turner-Essel, MA
What is your position at CAPS, and how long have you been working at UCSC?
Doctoral Psychology Intern, since August 2012.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Getting to do a little bit of everything – meeting with students, getting out onto campus for outreach events, and taking on special projects in the office.
Tell our readers about one of your favorite spots on campus or in Santa Cruz.
McHenry Library is an incredible resource on campus with access to thousands of materials including books, music, and films. It’s open late, there’s a cafe, and since it’s nestled in the woods, even the walk to get there is awesome!
What do you do to take care of yourself and relax?
I’ve got 4 kids that keep me busy outside of work. So when I can, I sleep!
What is one thing you wish you knew as a college student?
You don’t have to have life all figured out by age 25, 30, 40, or ever!
